A Zen And Natural Decoration To Feel Good At Home
In times of pandemics, we need to feel good at home even more than usual. Zen and nature decoration allows you to arrange your interior to promote well-being. A unique opportunity to take advantage of isolation to recharge your batteries! Discover our tips for transforming your home into a zen interior.
Decluttering to lighten the space
If Japanese interiors are minimalist, it’s not by chance. In the Zen philosophy, disorder prevents serenity. To promote well-being, it is, therefore, necessary to start by putting an order in the house. Moreover, why not take advantage of being confined to proceed to the great spring cleaning?
For a zen interior, one favors the circulation between the pieces of furniture by spacing them if possible of 60 cm. We declutter the floors as much as possible and we put away as many things as possible in pretty wicker baskets or wooden boxes. The idea is to visually lighten the space, especially if your interior has a small surface. You can be inspired by the principles of Feng-Shui to arrange your furniture in the house.
Choose light tones for a zen and natural interior decoration
White symbolizes purity and is therefore the basis of a Zen interior. It is combined with soft shades, mainly green and blue to recall the water, the sky, and the forest. The soft or pastel shades promote calm and rest, they are more recommended in the rooms.
We advise avoiding bright colors, especially if the rooms are small, but we can bring a few touches of darker colors with cushions, pots, or a chair cover.
Prefer raw and natural materials
A warm Zen interior gives pride of place to wood, which is best chosen in light tones. Otherwise, exotic species such as teak or mango may also be suitable. In Zen decor, wood is without frills, like other materials, in order to favor the natural appearance of materials.
We choose linen or cotton percale bed linen and we put wool or velvet cushions on leather sofas. You can add terracotta pots, wicker baskets, or rattan armchairs. In addition, all these materials have the advantage of absorbing sound, which promotes a serene environment. Acoustics is a key principle of Zen decor, as vibrations play a big role in well-being.
Greening the interior
The other constant in Zen interior design is greenery. Japanese gardens are famous for their restful layout that is conducive to meditation. We choose pots in raw materials (terracotta, pottery…) or in metal like bronze. Ginseng, astragalus or rhodiola are planted. These species have the particularity of being adaptogenic, that is to say, that they help the body to support stress and promote concentration. They can therefore also be placed in the bedrooms, out of reach of children if they are small.
The plant suspensions and the paintings of greenery are also of the most beautiful effect. Finally, an indoor shrub such as a dracaena can bring an exotic touch to the living room. Be careful not to accumulate too much, Zen decorating prefers minimalism!
Bring water and light
Water is essential in the natural cycle and therefore for the Zen philosophy. To find its benefits in the house, you can put a fountain or a miniature pond on a shelf or a corner of the living room buffet. The characteristic sound of a miniature waterfall will have unequaled soothing properties.
In terms of light, natural light is preferred: free up space in front of the windows and unclutter the glass to let in as much daylight as possible. If the opening is opposite, we opt for light and translucent curtains. On the other hand, when evening comes, we prefer a subdued atmosphere thanks to lights with warm tones. You can also light scented candles or lamps with essential oils to envelop the whole house in serenity. In fact, smells are also very important in a Zen interior.
Feeling good at home when you have arranged your interior according to the principles of Zen decorating is therefore particularly simple. Order, natural materials, light tones, plants, water, and light, this is the infallible recipe for a Zen and warm interior.
