If we do something well, it is to celebrate, whatever the occasion we have, and appropriate the best events from around the world. And one year more large and small companies are already preparing to launch their best Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals.

Black Friday, which now spans nearly the middle of November, is one of the best times of the year to find great deals on almost any type of technology. But then what is the difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday? And most importantly, on what day should you focus your advertising efforts?

When do Black Friday and Cyber Monday appear?

We started with Black Friday. Black Friday in America was traditionally the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving when retailers kick off the holiday shopping season.

This was established as a day when retailers were making such impressive discounts that crazed customers would try to break through doors before stores opened.

Despite being a specific day, this year that falls on Friday, November 27, retailers increasingly begin to launch their offers earlier, some starting at the beginning of the week and some even throughout the month of November.

On the other hand, Cyber Monday is the Monday immediately after Thanksgiving, which means that this year it will take place on Monday, 30 November.

It was a deliberate move that, as the name suggests, sought to promote online shopping in 2005 when the Internet was in its infancy. The term was coined by Ellen Davis and Scott Silverman of the National Retail Federation of America and Shop.org.

It was meant to help small businesses compete with the big companies that were sweeping Black Friday with their deep discounts, though of course those big names quickly jumped on the Cyber Monday bandwagon as well.

This is why it can be difficult to tell the difference between the two as they can seem like a single general sales event. But there are some key differences between Black Friday and Cyber Monday that are helpful to know before scheduling your promotions this year.

What are the differences between Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

In addition to the date, one is Friday and the other the following Monday, the main difference between the two is that Black Friday offers can be found online and in physical stores, while Cyber Monday is exclusively dedicated to online discounts.

In terms of the types of products that are promoted each day, both offer deep discounts on technology, but there are some cases where there is a greater difference.

For example, if the products you want to promote are the most sought after in the fields of fashion, toys, personal care, or entertainment, you have no ability to sell online or your clientele is mostly proximity, your date is Black Friday, while that cyber Monday is the day most chosen to find deals on electronics, and small appliances.

Finally, the profile of the buyer on both dates is different. On Black Friday, the buyer is predominantly female (70%), with an age range between 25 and 45 years.

While on Cyber Monday the average consumer is more balanced between men (49%) and women (51%), and between 35 and 45 years old with greater purchasing power.
