An iPhone power button repair is usually needed when you can no longer use the power button to activate sleep mode, to wake the screen and to turn the phone off or use it in conjunction with the Home Button to reboot the phone.

It is rarely the power button itself that is faulty, but more likely the flex cable inside the iPhone or the bracket that supports the metal button in the iPhone models. If you have an iPhone with a faulty power button, contact Apple as they are rolling out a replacement program as this is a known fault.

With the power flex, there is a small micro switch that usually breaks away from the flex cable and so the connection doesn’t activate the features normally associated with a button.

If you look at the top of your iPhone and see the metal button sitting lower in the frame or there is no movement or “click” when pressed, then it’s usually the flex cable.

If you can still push the button in, but it seems to have lost its “spring” then the bracket could have snapped on the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S.

Either way, the faulty power flex or retaining bracket will need replacing.

Neither of the two repairs is easy on the iPhone 6, 7, and the flex cable on the iPhone 8 is even more difficult to replace, so, think carefully before attempting the mobilreparasjon (mobile repair) yourself.

All iPhone models come with a 1-year hardware warranty and power button failure through normal use is covered so you should be entitled to a replacement.

If, however, your phone is out of warranty, or, you can’t afford to pay for an iPhone power button repair yourself, then there is a simple fix that will allow you to carry out most of the functions of the sleep/wake button.

To access this feature, go to Settings > General > Accessibility and scroll down to “Assistive Touch.” Move the slider until it shows green and then returns to the home screen.

You should now see a grey circle on your home screen. This can be moved to anywhere on your home screen simply by dragging it.

If you now tap the circle, four options appear one of which is “Device”. If you tap ” Device” you will notice you can lock the screen — simple as that.

If you need to take a screenshot, then press “More” and the “Screenshot” option is there (minus the Assistive Touch menu icons).

Finally, if you need to turn your iPhone off, tap and hold the “Lock Screen” icon until the “Power Off” screen appears.
